The Film Tour Update
Feb 26th
Those that didn’t go to the Fly Fishing Film Tour in SLC the other night missed out. It was a sold out show and the films this year were just as good or better than last year. Not only did I win a hat and a gift certificate from Fish West but I was able to meet a few people that I chat with on Facebook and Twitter. Overall it was a great night and I cant wait until next year.
bellow is my favorite film from this year.

Long Time Coming
Jan 26th
Last week I went fishing with the person that first got me into fly fishing.
While I was on a family vacation in Yellowstone my Uncle Daren took me to the upper Firehole River, gave me a caddis fly, told me where to cast and said cast in that hole there are tons of brook trout. 8 fish later I was the happiest kid around. After that day I knew that fly fishing was it. Even though I really didn’t get neck deep in fly fishing till I was in high school if it wasn’t for that day on the Firehole River I would have never been involved in the best sport known to man.
Daren and I on Saturday hit the Middle Provo River and had a wonderful day. Again, like ever day I am sure, midges were hatching and we were landing fish.
Like most of you know my dad past away a few years ago from cancer. My dad was one of my heroes and best friends. Daren my Dad and I would fish quite often together and going out with Daren we instantly were in discussion about my Dad and the memories we had together of him fishing, Daren even shared with me stories of the two of them that I hadn’t before heard. I can’t even remember that last time we fished together but this last week was tons of fun and was a long time coming.

Tibble Fork with Max…His first fish on a fly rod.
Nov 5th
On Saturday the 1st of Nov I took my boy Max up to Tibble Fork Reservoir as you head up American Fork Canyon, Utah. I would have liked to take him up to the Provo River but Tibble Fork is close and only about 20 min from my house. I decided to go up there because after talking with Dr. Gillespie I knew that the brown trout would be moving up the river for their annual spawn. When we arrived there were a few people on float tubes and no one fishing the on the inlet. To fish the inlet to the reservoir you don’t need anything bigger than a 7 foot 3/4 weight rod. I have two so max and rigged up and headed out. It was muddy from rain the day before so I put him on my back to get through the mud.
As you all know you need to be very careful with where you walk in the river because of the spawning beds or “reds” as they call them. The good thing is that this little river you really don’t need to wade at all, you can fish anywhere from just one side. We used a Glow Bug as the first fly and a Hares Ear for the second.
We caught about 20 browns ranging from 8 to 12 inches all on the Hares Ear. You will not catch big fish up there but you will catch a ton. Nothing like Utah Fly Fishing.
