New Zealand
What is it about New Zealand?
Apr 5th
Why do people want to go to New Zealand to Fly Fish? Is it the fish? Is it the fact that it is far away? Is it that the people have a different accent? Why?
I have been to New Zealand before but didn’t fish so I have the experience of seeing the country but the heart ache of not fishing. I am going to give you my opinion on why people, like me, that have never fished there want to go so bad.
Hoss’s reasons for wanting to fish New Zealand
- Lord of Rings was filmed in New Zealand: This is one of my favorite movie trilogies of all time and to think I could roam where Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee walked as they made their way to mount doom would just be amazing.
OK, on a more serious note……
- I watched Trout Bum Diaries vol 2 New Zealand Kiwi Camo: This was the first of all the Trout Bum movies that I watched. When I saw it even though I was married with kids I wanted to pack up and spend months camping and fishing for those big fish.
- There is something about fishing for big trout: From what I have seen from videos and pictures the brown trout are huge and beautiful. You have to hunt for the trout because you might only see one or two every few hundred yards. You can use spotters and also sight fish and there is no doubt that fishing for big fish is exciting and intense.
- Fly fishing in a different country: I don’t know if will be the bragging part or just the personal satisfaction of traveling a long way to another country in search for trout but I know that I will always take the opportunity to brag about it.
- To mark it off of my list: I have list of a number of different places on this earth that I want to fish. I hope that someday I can look at my list and have them all crossed off.
So there is my list of reasons, what are yours? Vote on the poll below, we would love to know where is your dream destination.
