Casting 4 A Cure
Casting 4 a Cure. The wrap up.

Casting 4 a Cure
This last weekend was the Casting 4 a Cure event and it was a fantastic event that was well put together. Thanks to Bill Farnum and Jim Copeland, we had a great time and it was very well organized.
Here is a brief recap of what happened and of course, who won the fly fishing contest.
- Thursday: Each group checked in and registered. That night we all met at the Christensen Art Gallery in Victor, Idaho. The artwork was amazing. We listened to the story behind the cause that Bill is engaged in and heard some musical talent from a bluegrass band. There was wine and cheese tasting as well as a silent auction. We polished the night off with a one fly/one cast in Christensen’s pond, but unfortunately no fish were roped. I did have a strike if that counts.
Friday: All the teams met early that morning at the Lodge at Teton Springs, met our guides, and headed out to different sections of the South Fork of the Snake River. We all fished hard! Later that night there was a BBQ and live band playing over at the Lodge at Teton Springs. It was a family and community event that was well attended. One of the highlights was meeting the sweet and beautiful little Ella Farnum and realizing why this cause is so important to the Farnums. Through this nights event they were able to raise even more money from the community for the (IRSF).
- Saturday: We all headed out again and fished a different section of the South Fork. We again fished like crazy. That night we all came back and reported our numbers. The contest was to take the 4 biggest fish (in inches) each day, add them together, then divide by that number to come up with an average. We had to wait on a few teams, but after we were all gathered, the results were tallied and the winners were:
TEAM SCANDALOUS - Mark ‘Rowdy’ Crapo and Thad Robison with a combined average of 19.5 inches. Rowdy roped the biggest pig of the tourney with a 23′ Cutt that sipped a hopper under an overhanging bush. Be sure to check out No Sports Allowed for the pics of that sloth. They both won a little trophy and a sweet Fly Rod from Sage.
They awarded the top 7 teams with smaller prizes. There were about 15 teams. Team Frenzy underperformed coming in 8th place. Big Hoss and I just couldn’t seem to rope the big dogs. We did catch quite a few fish, but couldn’t manage anything over 18inches.
Team NO SPORTS ALLOWED - Royce Klingler and Drake Munson won the most fish caught contest with 95 fish in 2 days.
Overall, it was a great event with great sponsors and great people. I can see the event next year being twice as big. It was well put together and a ton of fun. The main goal of this event is raising money and awareness for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation and that was definitely accomplished. I can’t wait to do it again next year.
Thanks to all that donated and/or participated.
We snapped a few pics of some of the fishing thanks to Big Hoss.

Frenzy Nation,
We have hesitated putting this up on the blog due to the fact we don’t want to over step our bounds, but we do think using our Frenzy Blog and networks on Facebook and Twitter to do good is something that most will understand.
We are trying to help raise money for the International Rett Syndrome foundation. Bill Farnum, a friend of ours has a daughter with Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a unique neurodevelopmental disorder which begins to show its affects in infancy or early childhood and is actually a condition that has the potential to be improved or cured. We, along with many others are attending a fly fishing event August 27th & 28th in Teton Springs to raise money for International Rett Syndrome Foundation and to help bring awareness to this cause.
We are asking anyone willing to please donate $10 to the cause. Please visit www.casting4acure.com to read more about Rett Syndrome and how Bill is doing good in this world.
If you want to donate we can send you a money request via PayPal, you could send a check or click the donate button below. For anyone that donates the International Rett Syndrome foundation will send you a donation receipt in the mail.
Again, please understand our intentions are to promote a great cause using the resources of the web and social media. We do understand things are tight in this economy and appreciate you even considering.
Casting 4 A Cure
May 4th
I first spoke to Bill Farnum over Facebook and became intrigued with the cause he has going, Casting 4 A Cure. We then had the opportunity to meet up in Southeast Idaho about 3 weeks ago and it is easy to tell that this guy is doing good in the world.
It is always exciting when you meet people that represent a worthy cause , and Bill is one of those people. The driving force behind this charity is Bill’s beautiful little daughter Ella who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in December of 2007.
So what is Casting 4 A Cure? (In Bill’s words)
Casting 4 A Cure was an idea born out of necessity; necessity to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. I wanted to combine my passion for fundraising with one of my other passion fly fishing. My original plan was for 4 – 6 guys to go up to the Rockies and have some fun and raise a little money for Rett Syndrome. Well, as time went on and more people caught wind, they said “I want in.” Who am I to say “No” ……. So we figured out the logistics on how to put together a world class fly fishing tournament with a twist. 8 teams consisting of two teammates would vie for the coveted Casting 4 A Cure trophy by pulling some of the biggest fish in the Yampa valley to their nets. Take you 4 biggest fish on Day 1, and combine that score with 4 more “pigs” on Day 2 and you have your winner.

Combine two days of fishing on private water for fish averaging 18″ and strong as bulls, with a fantastic auction with world class trips, gear from such companies as Sage, Fishpond, Reel Pure, Smith Optics, Ross, Patagonia and Cloudveil, then top it off with a 16 person Texas Hold Em Tournament and you get one heck of a great time.
So what is Rett Syndrome?
Rett Syndrome (RTT) is a unique neurodevelopmental disorder which begins to show its affects in infancy or early childhood. It is seen almost exclusively in females, although it can occur rarely in boys. The disorder severly disrupts gross and fine motor skills as well as robbing the girls of their ability to speak and communicate with the outside world. Seizures and breathing problems can also be prevailing symptoms.
It affects every aspect of a family’s life, as our girls our dependent upon us for almost everything , from helping feed them to helping them get around, bathing, and most other daily tasks that most of us take for granted.
Rett Syndrome Statistics
1. Rett Syndrome is one of the only neurological disorders that currently has a chance for a cure in the near future, as researchers now know the exact gene that is affecting the victims of this devastating disorder.
2. 99.5% cases of Rett Syndrome are sporadic, meaning the parents do not carry the gene.
3. Rett occurs in about 1 in 15,000 births.
4. 90% of the time Rett is misdiagnosed as Autism or Cerebral Palsy.
5. You can help us find a cure. Please donate to IRSF or a Rett Syndrome organization in your area. You can donate online at: International Rett Syndrome
We would encourage all to visit Bill’s website and get involved in this worthy cause. Thanks. Casting 4 A Cure
