Loop Gear on the Provo River

fly fishing loop gearThis past week I was able to meet up with some good friends on the Provo River to test out some awesome LOOP gear.  It was a rowdy bunch lead by Shane Wootan, which provided all the LOOP gear.  We also had the Outsmartingfish crew Grant Bench, Nathan Leavitt and Derek Olthuis.

This past few moths we have been helping LOOP promote and push products.  Before this I have only had a few experiences with LOOP products but after just one day last week I am %100 sold on LOOP.   We fished some double handed rods, saltwater setups, OPTi dryfly reels and much more.

The fishing wasn’t too bad for most of the day.  We landed a handful of fish between all of us but nothing to get excited about.  I was able to see Grant Bench swinging softhackle which was really cool, learned a lot just watching.

The Middle Provo Section was in great shape.  There was a midge hatch that came off and brought a ton of fish to the surface.  I didn’t see anything that was good size but we had numbers.  Water levels were great and of course clarity this time of year is perfect.   Tiny midges worked a long with sow bugs.  I also saw a report that red zebra midges were working really well.

Overall the river was in great shape, fishing was good and there wasn’t a big crowd.

In a post coming up I am going to review the OPTI runner reel and one of the OPTi cost rods with the xgrip, so far it is a solid piece of work.
