Provo Hooker

Been fishing the Provo River Hooker a ton lately so I wanted to share some of my pics.  A couple months ago Collin Carlson sent me sample of his fly and I just started to fish it.  This fly with a couple other flies is becoming my favorite to fish.  The way it acts in the water is pretty amazing.  The one great thing about it is the weight.  I like that it is heavier than most other streamers so that it can get down quickly.  The weight is distributed well throughout the body so the head just doesn’t dive straight down.  I have also noticed that it will pick up fish on the dead drift.  I have only fished it on the Provo River but I can only imagine that it would do the same on any trout stream.  I can’t wait until Fall to go after aggressive Brown Trout with this fly.  Here are a few pictures of the fish and the fly.  I one of the pictures the fly looks like it could be a Muppet.

Here is the tutorial from Collin’s site Finpusher.com on how to tie the fly:

I want to start by saying this is my first tutorial so don’t expect a masterpiece. The “Provo Hooker” has been over a year in the making and this final version has accounted for well over a hundred healthy trout to hand. If you frequent this site you have undoubtedly seen it before.

Pictured above are the ingredients needed including optional Root Beer UV flash.

Gamakatzu B10S #1 or #2

.035 Lead Free round wire

Balz Dumbbell eyes Black Nickel large

Marabou, Black, Moss Green, Burnt Golden Tan

Dyed UV Polar Chenille Olive

Ice Dub UV Cinnamon

Barred Olive Green Zonker strip

Red or Orange grizzly Schlappen

White Zonker strip

Moose hair

You can add Root Beer UV flash just after the moose hair if you desire (trim to the length of the Olive Zonker strip). I have fished it both ways with great success but prefer mine without any additional flash. I hope you found this tutorial beneficial and you are able to slay a hog or twelve using it. Next time the fishing calls for streamers tie on a “Provo Hooker” for a happy finish.

The “Provo Hooker” is a Finpusher original.
