New water is always fun

Fly Fishing Utah

fly fishing utahLast week I had the opportunity to hang out on the water with Spencer Higa and Bryan Eldredge from Falcons Ledge.  We went to a river that they fish a few times a year and that I have never fished.  It was one of the most enjoyable days on a river I have had in a long time.  I think what made it so great was obviously fishing with good people but it was tough fishing to rising cutthroats and browns, great whether and and fishing new water.  The water was off color and a bit high so it took us about a half an hour to really figure out what we needed to do to get the fish on the end of our line.   We fished all day with dry dropper rigs.  Most of the day we need to have a bright colored dropper to attract them with the dirty water.  We would occasionally come up to rising trout but for the most part we hunted fish in areas where we knew they would be.  One of coolest things about this river is that the fish are bigger than you would think.  We all caught several nice size browns and cutthroats and had a ton of fun.

fantastic fish for that size of stream– looks awesome, I would love to see it when the water is a bit lower!
