We had our annual New Year’s Day fishing outing to the Provo River.  It was a perfect day with almost no clouds and temps around 39 degrees.  In years past we have hit the lower Provo but this year we decided to go to the Middle.  We got to the river at about 9ish and caught a few nymphing.  I could immediately tell that we were going to see some midges hatching soon so I switched over to a orange asher griffiths gnat with a small emerger midge as a dropper.  I was able to land a few with that setup but switched back and forth from nymphs to drys until about 12 when the fish started going crazy.  I didn’t as many pics or video as I wanted because I was so focused on trying to catch fish.

There is no doubt that midge hatches on the Middle Provo are my favorite dry fly action.

I was able to use my new rod from Scandalous Sticks.
