I like the list but to be honest you need to add Mountain Home, AR....while its not in the mountains and it is a tail water fishery it is world class fishing. Not to mention its the home area of the Brown trout world record and previous records....Little Norfolk, White River and the Little Red....just something to chew on...

Scott, i agree 100% about the Pocatello, Ashton, Victor triangle. My ideal is Rexburg. 10 min from the South Fork, 10 min from Henry's Fork , and 20 min from the Teton river. About 1.5 hours to Jackson and Yellowstone. That is too bad about your relatives selling that land in Victor. It is a great place.

I actually saw that in the magazine. I'm not sure the criteria they used, something like a 100 mile radius? But here's my take: I figure anything within a 4 hour radius is easily doable as a day trip: 8 hours driving 8 hours fishing. Anything within a 6 hour radius is doable if the fishing is really hot (hey, I can sacrifice sleep for fishing as easily as the next bloke). That puts my hometown, Logan, smack dab in the middle of all those fishing places ;-) Actually, except for Canada, Missoula and Sandpoint, I can fish those places in a day trip.

However, my ideal living location would be anywhere within the Pocatello, Ashton, Victor triangle would be my ideal living location for fishing. From there, pretty much the entire list (except Canada and Sandpoint) are about 4 hours or less. Prices can be a bit high in some of these areas, but there are little pockets here and there.

I'd have to say that the FFF villa in Victor is well situated. (My father-in-law's great g'pa was sent by Brigham Young to settle the area, and his family once owned pretty much all of the businesses in Victor. We go there every Memorial Day to take care of family burial plots. So I'm fairly familiar with the area. They sold the last of the family property about five years ago--sad day.)
