Yucaton Tarpon, “Mayan King”

April 12, 2009

Get your Tarpon on!

As Tarpon season begins, I think back to my first experience chasing silvers.  I have never had such an adrenaline rush as I did when I saw the giant tarpon surface.  That feeling is hard to forget, and even harder to capture on film.  As I was browsing Youtube, I came across a pretty cool video that captures that excitement as well as any I’ve seen.

Check it out!

That video just gave me a feva! And the only cure is one of 2 things. More Cow Bell! Or Going Back to Isla Holbox, Mexico to see our friends, the Wonderful Mom that Adopted for that week and made us fresh Tacos each day. She Was Awesome! We Probably Ate Tortillas In that week than week than I did the rest of the year! And of Course To Chase Or Hunt Those Silver Kings. I think It truly ruined my fresh wash fishing for a good 9 to 12 months after! Just Wake Up at night in Cold Sweat thinking you had one on the end of your line. I couldn’t double haul as I just was not as good at casting a fly rod so far and I am not ashamed to say I used a Rapala to catch my first and second Large Tarpon! I still have that Red Headed White Beuty with Gnarly teeth marks all over it. And The sea shells and white sand! Thanks to Our Guide Mr. Sand Flea and Crew for making that such a great trip. I highly Recommend Isla Holbox, Mexico for Tarpon fishing because it’s such a unique and beautiful Island that is its own Little Piece of Heaven! Hey R.Tibbits Do you have that video of the first one Tarpon? I would love to see that again sometime. Great Post! Now I’m going feel all Sunkist And Probably get Strepthroat! Oh that was Horrible! Why!!! Get Strep On The Best Fishing Trip EVER!
