Fly Fishing Frenzy on New Year’s Day

As we documented and mentioned before one of our traditions with the Frenzy group is that we Fish on New Year’s Day. We decided to fish the Provo River When we got there it was about 17 degrees, so we layered up and set out to try and catch some fatties. Overall the weather cooperated and made the first day of ’09 Frenzy Fishing a success.

Sometimes on these freezing January mornings, the Provo River provides absolutely beautiful scenes. Such as; birds playing in the water, ice formations along the banks of the river and we were even blessed with the flyby of a Bald Eagle only 30 feet above our heads. We caught some gorgeous Rainbows. The biggest pushing 20 inches and tipping the scales at about 4 ½ lbs.

We finished the morning off with some breakfast burritos Frenzy style from Betos.

Below are the videos and pictures from yesterday and from the Fly Fishing Frenzy we hope everyone has a great 2009.

Looks like you gents got into some nice bows! Although, the Zinger shot is probably my favorite – yum!

One of these days I might actually fish the Provo (other than the Green, I’ve never fished in Utah outside of Cache Valley – I always head to Idaho/Wyoming when I head out of the valley). I hear the crowds can get a bit wicked, so maybe I’ll have to do it in winter since it doesn’t look too crowded in your pics.

    Keep up the good work!

Hey stalker, thanks for your posts. Best time of year to catch those bows! We would love to have you join us. I know what you mean though, it’s hard to pass up those Idaho/Wyoming waters. There are so many good spots. I wish I lived closer. The Green River is a great river, and you would really enjoy the Provo (in winter time). The crowds can get a little crazy from time to time in the summer, but there are some great runs to fish. You have a great site! Everyone can check it out at http://www.scarles.org/blog

That was so much fun to get out on the Provo…even though I got skunked and lost Chubbs fishing net. I look forward to our Feb outing.

Was it in that big hole before that little island or in the shallows before the hole or was is down-stream? I am glad to hear you found it.
